In the world of Victoria there is no longer a balance between the bond in a dragon and rider. Most have lost the meaning of a true bond. They care more about pureblood status than anything else. When Aster loses the competition to become the next Captain for the queen to an arrogant, evil, and rich pureblood called Silas he realizes how far the corruption has spread. Even the Queen herself believes the best riders to be purebloods, rather than a pair with a strong bond. 

After losing Aster falls back to his companions who help him realize that they can do something about this corruption. They start a rebellion which causes a revolution as the poor rise up against the rich. Along the way he helps Silas realize there is more to being a rider than being a pureblood, and together they overthrow the King and Queen to restore order.
